People
We are a model of diversity and integration for the world. Yet there are still significant disparities in many of our residents’ lives, in their well-being and sense of belonging, in realizing opportunities for success.
There are disparities in the lives of our children ―some rely on food banks for their meals; some go hungry and consequently struggle in school. This at an age when proper nutrition, structure and a nurturing environment is so important for a strong start in life.
Our seniors also face challenges. We need to provide more opportunities for seniors to be included and involved in their communities. This means accessible transit, a health care system that is responsive to seniors’ needs, that encourages aging-in-place, and community care that provides options for healthy choices and encourages active lifestyles.
Regardless of our religion, race, colour, age or gender, we all want to feel that we belong, and can make a contribution to our society. By developing connections with each other, we build trust, and this is what keeps our community strong and vital.
